Cottonwood Park 1 – Whole House Remodel

Our clients had seriously considered moving to a newer, larger house to accommodate their growing needs.  But ultimately, they decided they wanted to find a way to stay in their home – located in a neighborhood and city that they had grown to love.

With limited space to expand out, their split-level house was a prime candidate for an addition over the main living area. So with Mom and Dad having final say on who would get to occupy the new uppermost floor, we created a spacious Master Suite, with vaulted ceilings in the bedroom, a 5-pc bath – complete with steam shower and heated floors, a walk-in closet, a Laundry room, and a private walk-out Balcony off the bedroom.  But the kids’ made out pretty well too: one got her parents’ old en-suite bedroom; the other got a much enlarged bedroom by our combining the siblings’ two original rooms.

The main floor received a full renovation as well.  We removed all the partition walls that separated the Kitchen from the Dining Room from the Living Room, and created a Great Room with elevated 9-foot ceilings.  The focus of this new open space was their new gourmet kitchen – its centerpiece being an expansive Island, defined by an elevated bar-height countertop; large enough to allow 6 people to comfortably sit and chat with – and enjoy watching – the house Chef at work.

Additionally, we bumped out the front Entry, creating a more spacious and private vestibule (and coat closet) on the interior.  And the expanded front porch, with its covered roof, exposed beams, and composite decking, brought a welcoming warmth, along with some added protection, to the exterior.

We also re-worked the Garage roof line, switching it from a gable to a shed, which opened up the façade of the house, while drawing focus to its alluring metal standing-seam roof, matching the roof of the newly expanded front entry.

Finally, we replaced all the home’s vinyl siding with a classic combination of clapboards and board & batten siding.

The result, aside from adding 700 SF of livable space, was a home made to welcome and entertain, perfectly suited to our clients’ personalities.
